Description
Dahlia ‘Pinelands Princess’ is a refined fimbriata dahlia that brings soft colour and delicate texture into the summer garden. The blooms open in a gentle blend of blush pink, creamy white, and soft peach tones, with subtle shifts in colour that give each flower a natural, painterly finish. Its defining feature is the finely fringed petal edge. As a fimbriata type, each petal is delicately split at the tip, creating a light, feathery texture. From a distance the flowers appear full and luminous, while up close the intricate detail becomes clearly visible. This combination gives the variety an elegant presence without feeling heavy or overworked.
Flowers typically measure around 12–15 cm across and are held on strong, upright stems above well-structured plants. ‘Pinelands Princess’ grows to approximately 80–100 cm tall and produces blooms steadily from midsummer right through to the first frost, especially when regularly cut or deadheaded. In the garden, it blends effortlessly into soft planting schemes. It pairs beautifully with blush tones, creams, pale yellows, and muted apricots, while also working as a gentle contrast against deeper-coloured dahlias and perennials. The fringed texture adds movement and helps soften more structured plantings.
As a cut flower, it is highly reliable. The stems are long and clean, the blooms last well in the vase, and the soft colouring makes it easy to combine with a wide range of flowers. The textured edges add subtle interest without overwhelming arrangements.
Plant tubers in spring after the risk of frost has passed, in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Stake plants early to support growth and encourage strong stems. In colder regions, lift and store tubers after the first frost.
