Paperwhite Flower Bulbs from Holland
Fragranced and un-fragranced paperwhites
For many, a large part of the appeal of paperwhite narcissus is their distinctive and strong perfume, but for others this is the very reason to keep them at bay. Luckily, there is a paperwhite daffodil bulb for sale that suits both camps. If you love Paperwhites but are not keen on the scent, then Narcissus Paperwhites (Inbal) is the right choice. Exactly the same as the regular Paperwhites but without the strong perfume, the lovely narcissus Inbal bears a huge number of pure white blooms per stem and is perfect for winter table displays. Otherwise, Indoor Narcissus Paperwhites (Ziva) is a highly fragranced daffodil with large clusters of pure white flowers that exude a gorgeous, spicy scent.
How to grow paperwhite flower bulbs in water
To say paperwhite flower bulbs are easy to grow is rather an understatement. Paperwhite bulbs don’t even need soil to grow! These incredibly undemanding beauties can be grown in water, just by following these simple directions: place a layer of stones or pebbles to a depth of around 5cm in a small vase or about 10cm in a larger vase (for best display, use transparent glass vases), then place a layer of paperwhite daffodil bulbs close to each other, roots facing down, put a few more stones or pebbles around and between the bulbs to anchor them in the vase and leave the tops of the bulbs exposed. Finally, add water until the level reaches just below the base of the bulbs, but no higher (if the bases of the bulbs sit in water, they will rot). Voila. Within 3-5 weeks, you will be rewarded with beautiful paperwhite narcissus blooms.
Paperwhite bulb planting tips
For optimum blooming time and to make the most of the paperwhite season, plant paperwhite bulbs every two weeks from November through to January, that way you can enjoy these beautiful flowers all winter long. Paperwhite bulbs really like to be densely packed so when planting paperwhite bulbs in soil, pack your pots well as this will create a fuller display of blooms and also reduces the risk of plant stems flopping.
