Dahlia Maxime

Dahlia ‘Maxime’ is a vibrant decorative dahlia that brings warmth, colour, and strong late-summer energy into the garden. Its bold two-tone blooms combine rich golden yellow petals with vivid red tipping and streaking, creating a glowing effect that changes subtly as the flowers mature. The blooms are fully double with a classic rounded decorative form, reaching approximately 12–15 cm across. Some flowers display stronger red edging, while others remain brighter yellow, giving the plant a lively, ever-changing appearance throughout the flowering season.

Plants grow to around 90–110 cm tall with sturdy stems and a well-branched habit, producing masses of blooms from midsummer until the first frost. Regular deadheading and cutting encourage even more flowers over a long season. Early staking is recommended to support the stems as the plant fills out. In the garden, Dahlia ‘Maxime’ works beautifully in warm-toned borders alongside oranges, reds, bronze foliage, and golden perennials. The contrasting petals catch the light particularly well, adding movement and brightness to mixed planting schemes.

As a cut flower, it is exceptionally useful. The strong stems and bold colouring make it ideal for vibrant summer and autumn arrangements, where it adds both structure and warmth without needing much additional filler.

For best results, plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Provide regular watering during dry periods and harvest blooms frequently to keep plants flowering continuously.
