Description

Sanguisorba 'Lilac Squirrel' is a charming perennial that brings colour, movement and a playful touch to summer borders. From July to September, its soft lilac-pink flower spikes dangle gracefully from upright stems, swaying gently in the breeze. Their distinctive bottlebrush-like appearance creates an airy, naturalistic effect, making this variety particularly attractive in prairie-style gardens and informal planting schemes.

Growing to approximately 115 cm tall, it forms a neat clump of finely divided, grey-green foliage, adding texture and structure without overwhelming neighbouring plants. It thrives in full sun and prefers moist, well-drained soil. The delicate flowers are attractive to bees and butterflies, making it an excellent choice for wildlife-friendly gardens.

For a relaxed, naturalistic display, combine it with ornamental grasses, Echinacea or late-summer-flowering Salvia. Cut back the stems to ground level in late winter or early spring to encourage fresh growth for the following season.

At DutchGrown, we supply Sanguisorba 'Lilac Squirrel' as bare root plants for spring planting. Dispatch begins in mid March.
