Description
Sanguisorba albiflora, commonly known as White Flowered Burnet, is a lovely perennial that brings a light, airy feel to summer borders. Its slender stems carry delicate, fluffy white flowers above a neat mound of fresh green foliage, creating a beautiful natural look without overwhelming neighbouring plants.
Flowering from June through to September, this Sanguisorba is particularly effective planted among ornamental grasses and other summer flowering perennials. The white flowerheads seem to float above the foliage, adding movement and a softness that works especially well in cottage gardens and more naturalistic planting schemes.
Unlike some of the taller Sanguisorba varieties, 'Albiflora' stays relatively compact, generally reaching around 60 to 75 cm in height. It's a good choice for the middle of a border, where its flowers can weave naturally between surrounding plants.
It's also wonderfully easy to grow. Give it a sunny or partly shaded position and soil that retains some moisture without becoming waterlogged. Once established, this hardy perennial will return year after year, gradually forming an attractive clump.
For a particularly lovely combination, try planting Sanguisorba albiflora alongside Salvia, Crocosmia or ornamental grasses.
At DutchGrown, we supply Sanguisorba albiflora as bare root plants, available to order now for spring planting. Dispatch begins in mid March.
