Description

Dahlia ‘Sturm Sweet Maria’ is a beautifully layered decorative dahlia known for its soft shifting tones and elegant flower form. The blooms open in warm apricot shades before gradually softening into blush pink, salmon and creamy undertones as they mature, creating a natural variation across the plant throughout the season. Its fully double flowers are neatly formed with gently layered petals that create a rounded, refined appearance without feeling overly formal. Blooming at around 10–12 cm across, the flowers are large enough to make an impact while still blending effortlessly into mixed borders and softer planting schemes.

Plants typically grow to around 90–110 cm tall, forming a strong, upright clump with sturdy stems that are ideal for cutting. From midsummer through to the first frosts, ‘Sturm Sweet Maria’ flowers continuously, producing fresh blooms over many weeks when picked regularly. In the garden, this variety brings warmth and softness without dominating nearby plants. It pairs beautifully with creams, mauves, ornamental grasses and other pastel-toned flowers, making it especially effective in romantic or cottage-style planting combinations.

As a cut flower, it performs exceptionally well. The long stems and evolving colour tones give arrangements depth and movement, while the blooms hold their shape beautifully in the vase.

Dahlia ‘Sturm Sweet Maria’ thrives in full sun and fertile, well-drained soil. Easy to grow and highly rewarding, it is an excellent choice for gardeners looking for a softer, more nuanced dahlia that changes beautifully through the season.
