Description
Dahlia ‘Que Sera’ is a distinctive anemone-flowered dahlia that brings softness, texture, and painterly colour into the summer garden. Each bloom combines a simple outer ring of petals with a raised, cushion-like centre, creating a layered form that feels light, expressive, and full of movement. The colouring is where this variety truly stands out. Flowers open in creamy white petals brushed with lilac, mauve, and soft pink tones, often deepening slightly towards the tips. At the centre, a dense cluster of tubular florets forms a richer contrast, giving each bloom a striking two-tone, almost watercolour effect. No two flowers look exactly the same, which adds to its natural charm.
Blooms typically measure around 10–15 cm across and are held on strong, upright stems. Plants grow to approximately 90–120 cm tall with a full, branching habit, producing a generous supply of flowers throughout the season. Flowering begins in midsummer and continues right up until the first frost. Regular cutting encourages continuous production, making ‘Que Sera’ especially valuable for cutting gardens and home arrangements.
In the garden, it brings a softer, more romantic palette that blends beautifully with blush tones, creams, pale purples, and deeper late-summer colours. The open centre also makes it attractive to pollinators, adding extra life and movement to planting schemes. As a cut flower, it performs reliably. The stems are strong, the blooms last well in a vase, and the unusual colouring makes it easy to combine with both subtle and bold arrangements. It adds texture and interest without overwhelming other flowers.
Plant tubers in spring after the risk of frost has passed, in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Water regularly during dry spells and stake plants early in exposed sites. In colder regions, lift and store tubers after the first frost.
