Dahlia Orange Hype

Dahlia ‘Orange Hype’ is a collarette dahlia that stands out immediately for its unusual colour and layered flower form. The blooms open with soft peach-orange outer petals over a deeper warm base, creating a glowing foundation of colour. Inside, a frilled collar of narrow, slightly twisted petals appears in shades of orange, soft pink, and subtle lilac tones, surrounding a bright golden centre. This mix of structure and colour gives each flower a lively, slightly untamed character. Unlike more uniform dahlias, no two blooms look exactly the same, which adds to its natural, expressive feel in the garden. Flowers typically measure around 10–15 cm across and appear freely throughout the season on tall, branching plants.

Plants can reach 150 cm or more in height in good conditions, with strong, often dark-toned stems that contrast beautifully with the softer flower colours. It is a vigorous grower that performs best when given space to develop fully. In borders, ‘Orange Hype’ brings warmth and movement without feeling flat or one-dimensional. It blends well with oranges, corals, and reds, but also stands out beautifully against softer planting schemes where its unusual colour mix becomes a focal point. The open centre also makes it attractive to pollinators.

This variety is also excellent for cutting, producing long stems and eye-catching blooms that add texture and complexity to arrangements. It is especially useful when you want something less predictable than standard decorative dahlias.

Plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed, in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Provide support early due to its height, and water regularly during dry spells. In colder regions, lift and store tubers after the first frost.
