Description
Dahlia ‘Bohemian Spartacus’ is a true showpiece variety that brings dramatic scale and bold colouring to the summer garden. Producing large dinnerplate-style blooms, this dahlia stands out immediately thanks to its impressive flower size and its richly patterned petals. Each bloom is slightly different, giving the plant a natural, artistic quality rather than a uniform appearance.
The petals are broad and gently irregular, layered in deep velvety red and streaked with creamy yellow. Some flowers show strong, high-contrast markings, while others appear more softly brushed, creating a constantly changing display throughout the season. This variation is part of its appeal, ensuring every bloom feels unique.
Flowers can reach up to 20–25 cm across, carried on sturdy stems that hold their weight surprisingly well when supported early in the season. Plants typically grow to around 90–110 cm tall, forming a strong presence in borders or cutting gardens.
Dahlia ‘Bohemian Spartacus’ flowers continuously from mid-summer until the first frosts, especially when regularly deadheaded or cut for arrangements. It performs best in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil, where it can develop its full flower size and strength.
In the garden, this is very much a focal variety. Its bold colouring and large-scale blooms naturally draw attention, making it ideal for feature planting or for adding impact within mixed borders. It pairs particularly well with deep greens, burgundy foliage, and softer neutral tones such as cream or pale blush, where the flowers can stand out without competition.
As a cut flower, it is exceptionally striking. The large blooms and painterly markings make it perfect for dramatic arrangements, where just a few stems can provide real presence and structure.
For best results, plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed, and stake early to support the heavy blooms as they develop.
A bold, expressive dahlia that delivers colour, scale, and individuality all season long.
