Description
Dahlia ‘April Heather’ is a graceful anemone-flowered dahlia with a softer, more delicate character than many traditional garden dahlias. The blooms open in beautifully blended shades of apricot, blush pink, warm cream, and soft peach, creating a gentle watercolour effect across the petals. At the centre sits a raised cushion of creamy white to pale yellow florets, adding texture and contrast without making the flower feel heavy.
Its open flower form gives planting schemes a lighter, more natural movement, making it especially useful among fuller decorative dahlias or densely planted summer borders. The blooms typically reach around 10–12 cm across and sit elegantly on upright stems above healthy green foliage.
Dahlia ‘April Heather’ belongs to the anemone-flowered dahlia group, prized for its airy structure and relaxed garden presence. The softly blended colouring combines effortlessly with creams, pale yellows, blush tones, lavender shades, and ornamental grasses, bringing warmth and softness to mixed planting schemes.
Flowering from mid-summer through to the first frosts, this variety provides continuous colour for months with regular deadheading. Plants grow to approximately 90–100 cm tall and perform best in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil.
The blooms are also excellent for cutting, adding texture and variation to bouquets thanks to their distinctive centre and lighter flower form. Early staking is recommended, particularly in windy gardens or richer soils where growth becomes more vigorous.
Elegant, understated, and highly versatile, Dahlia ‘April Heather’ is ideal for gardeners looking to create a softer late-summer palette with natural charm and refined detail.
