Description
Astrantia ‘Pink Button’ is a graceful and long-flowering perennial that brings softness, texture and understated elegance to the garden. Its delicate pale pink blooms appear in abundance throughout summer, creating a light, airy effect that blends effortlessly with a wide range of planting styles.
The flowers display the intricate beauty that makes Astrantias such treasured garden plants. Each bloom features a finely detailed pincushion centre surrounded by papery, star-like bracts, giving the flowers a refined and almost jewel-like appearance. Viewed from a distance, they create a gentle cloud of colour that weaves beautifully through the border.
Forming neat clumps of attractive lobed green foliage, ‘Pink Button’ sits comfortably amongst other perennials, making it ideal for the front or middle of borders. Its soft colouring is particularly valuable for linking stronger shades together, adding depth and harmony to mixed plantings without ever dominating the display.
A favourite with pollinators, the flowers attract bees throughout the season and are excellent for cutting. Their delicate structure also makes them suitable for drying, bringing their charm indoors long after flowering has finished.
‘Pink Button’ combines beautifully with roses, peonies, salvias, nepeta, campanulas, alliums, astilbes, ferns and ornamental grasses, where its elegant flowers add movement and a natural, relaxed character to the planting.
For best results, grow in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Easy to grow and exceptionally rewarding, it provides weeks of colour and remains one of the most versatile perennials for cottage gardens, wildlife-friendly borders and naturalistic planting schemes.
