Description
Astrantia ‘Cerise Button’ is a charming perennial that brings colour, elegance and remarkable longevity to the garden. Flowering generously from late spring well into summer, it produces masses of intricate blooms in rich cerise pink and raspberry tones, held delicately above fresh green foliage.
The flowers have the distinctive beauty for which Astrantias are so highly prized. Tiny pincushion-like centres are surrounded by papery bracts, creating an effect that is both delicate and highly detailed. From a distance, the plant adds a soft haze of colour to the border, while up close the flowers reveal an extraordinary level of texture and refinement.
More compact than many traditional Astrantia varieties, ‘Cerise Button’ forms a neat, bushy clump that fits beautifully into the front or middle of mixed borders. Its natural, relaxed appearance makes it equally at home in cottage gardens, wildlife-friendly planting schemes and contemporary naturalistic designs.
A favourite with bees and other pollinators, it combines effortlessly with roses, peonies, salvias, campanulas, alliums, ornamental grasses and shade-loving perennials such as hostas and ferns. The flowers are also excellent for cutting and retain their beauty when dried, making them valuable both in the garden and indoors.
For best results, grow in fertile, moisture-retentive but well-drained soil. It thrives in partial shade but will also perform well in full sun where the soil remains consistently moist. Easy to grow and wonderfully long flowering, ‘Cerise Button’ is one of those reliable garden plants that quietly enhances every planting around it.
