Alcea Chater's Double Mix (Hollyhock)

Go for our Alcea Chater's Double Mix, commonly known as Hollyhock, for a classic cottage garden display filled with colour. This well known variety produces tall flower spikes covered in fully double, ruffled blooms in a mixture of shades, including pink, red, yellow and lighter tones. Plants can reach around 1.5 to 2 metres in height, making them particularly effective towards the back of borders or alongside walls and fences.

Flowering during summer, these hollyhocks are attractive to pollinators and grow best in a sunny position with well drained, moderately fertile soil. Their height adds valuable vertical interest to mixed borders, while the mixture of flower colours creates a varied display rather than a single uniform shade. Space plants approximately 45 to 60 cm apart to allow sufficient room for growth and good air circulation.

Although hollyhocks are best suited to garden beds and borders, they can also be grown in large, deep containers where they have sufficient room for their roots and adequate support.
