Description
Dahlia ‘Red and White Fubuki’ is a striking fimbriata dahlia that brings bold contrast, texture, and movement into the summer garden. Its finely fringed petals create a soft, feathered edge that gives each bloom a slightly wild, expressive appearance rather than a perfectly uniform form. The colouring is what makes this variety instantly recognisable. Each flower opens in a rich, saturated red, tipped and brushed with crisp white. Some blooms show a sharper split between the two colours, while others have a more streaked or feathered blend, ensuring every flower feels unique and slightly unpredictable in the best way.
Blooms typically measure around 10–12 cm across and are carried on strong, upright stems that hold their shape well in the garden. Plants grow to approximately 90–120 cm tall and produce flowers continuously from midsummer right through until the first frost. ‘Red and White Fubuki’ is a reliable, free-flowering variety that responds well to regular cutting. The more blooms you harvest, the more the plant produces, making it especially valuable for cutting gardens.
In borders, it adds instant contrast and energy. The strong red-and-white pattern stands out from a distance and works beautifully when planted in groups. It pairs well with softer pastels, creams, and greens, where its bold colouring can really shine. As a cut flower, it is equally effective. The long, sturdy stems and unusual fringed form make it ideal for arrangements that need texture and impact without heaviness.
Plant tubers in spring after the risk of frost has passed, in a sunny position with well-drained soil. Stake plants early in exposed sites to support growth and flowering. In colder regions, lift and store tubers after the first frost.
