Description

Dahlia ‘Hollyhill Spiderwoman’ is one of the most distinctive spider-form dahlias you can grow, prized for its dramatic shape, vivid colouring, and strong garden movement. The blooms are formed from long, narrow petals that twist and stretch outward in every direction, creating a loose, expressive silhouette that feels almost alive in the border. The colouring sits in rich shades of magenta and deep pink, often with lighter streaking and subtle tonal variation through the petals. This natural variation adds depth and enhances the wild, painterly look of the flowers. Unlike tightly formed decorative dahlias, ‘Hollyhill Spiderwoman’ has a freer, more relaxed character that brings texture and energy into planting schemes.

Flowers typically reach around 10–13 cm across, though the spidery form makes them appear larger. Plants grow to approximately 90–110 cm tall and produce long, slender stems that hold the blooms clearly above the foliage. Flowering begins in midsummer and continues generously until the first frosts with regular cutting and deadheading. In the garden, Dahlia ‘Hollyhill Spiderwoman’ works beautifully in mixed borders, prairie-style planting, and more naturalistic designs where texture and movement matter just as much as colour. It pairs especially well with soft pinks, purples, ornamental grasses, and airy perennial planting.

As a cut flower, it brings shape and movement rather than bulk. A few stems can completely transform an arrangement, adding line, texture, and a more artistic, organic feel.

For best results, plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. Light staking is recommended, particularly in exposed gardens, to support the tall stems through the flowering season.

An expressive, architectural dahlia that adds movement, texture, and a more contemporary feel to summer planting.
