Description
Dahlia ‘Happy Butterfly’ is a cheerful, free-flowering waterlily dahlia with soft sunset colouring and excellent pollinator appeal. The open blooms combine shades of peach, apricot, and soft pink around a bright golden centre, creating a light, airy look that feels relaxed and full of movement. Unlike heavier decorative dahlias, the flowers have a more open structure that allows bees and butterflies easy access to the pollen-rich centre. As the blooms mature, the colours subtly shift and soften, giving the plant a lively, ever-changing appearance throughout the season.
Flowers are typically 7–10 cm across and carried on tall, slender stems that move beautifully in the breeze. Plants grow to around 90–120 cm tall with a naturally branching habit, producing masses of blooms continuously from midsummer until the first frosts. In the garden, Dahlia ‘Happy Butterfly’ is perfect for cottage gardens, naturalistic planting schemes, and wildlife-friendly borders. It combines especially well with ornamental grasses, salvias, echinacea, and other airy perennials where its open form adds softness and movement.
Although less formal than traditional cut-flower dahlias, it still makes wonderfully relaxed bouquets with a fresh, garden-picked feel.
For best results, plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed in a sunny, well-drained position. Light support may be helpful in exposed areas, and regular deadheading will encourage continuous flowering.
A lively, pollinator-friendly dahlia that brings colour, movement, and a natural garden feel all summer long.
