Description

Dahlia ‘Great Hercules’ is a true giant among decorative dahlias, producing spectacular blooms that can reach 25 cm or more across in ideal conditions. This is a high-impact variety designed to dominate a planting and deliver maximum visual presence. The flowers are fully double, formed from broad, gently curved petals that create a full, rounded silhouette. Colour sits in warm peach and apricot tones, softened with buttery highlights that become more pronounced as the bloom matures. In bright sunlight, the petals take on a luminous, almost glowing quality.

Despite its scale, the plant produces strong, upright stems capable of supporting the enormous blooms when properly staked. Plants typically grow to around 100–120 cm tall and flower continuously from midsummer until the first frosts with regular deadheading. In the garden, Dahlia ‘Great Hercules’ is best used as a focal point or structural feature. It works particularly well at the back of borders or in spacious planting schemes where the sheer size of the flowers can be fully appreciated. It pairs beautifully with darker dahlias, deep foliage, and soft whites, where its warm colouring stands out strongly.

As a cut flower, it is a true statement piece. A single bloom can anchor an entire arrangement, bringing warmth, volume, and presence.

For best results, plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed in a sunny, sheltered position with rich, well-drained soil. Staking early is essential due to the weight of the blooms, and regular cutting encourages continued flowering through the season.

A bold, oversized dahlia that delivers exceptional scale, colour, and garden impact.
