Description
Dahlia ‘Franz Kafka’ is a beautifully formed pompon dahlia known for its perfectly rounded blooms and exceptionally reliable flowering habit. The flowers are a vivid, clear pink and hold their colour remarkably well throughout the season, bringing brightness and structure to borders and cutting gardens alike. Each bloom is made up of tightly rolled petals arranged in a near-perfect geometric pattern, creating the classic pompon shape that gives this variety its refined, almost sculpted appearance. The flowers are smaller in size, typically around 5–7 cm across, but are produced in impressive numbers over a long flowering season.
Plants grow to around 80–100 cm tall and carry the blooms on strong, upright stems above healthy green foliage. Flowering begins in midsummer and continues right through to the first frosts with regular cutting and deadheading. In the garden, Dahlia ‘Franz Kafka’ adds rhythm and repetition, especially when planted in groups where the rounded blooms create a striking visual effect. It combines beautifully with softer flower forms and looser planting styles, offering contrast without dominating nearby plants.
As a cut flower, it is exceptionally dependable. The long stems, strong colour retention, and excellent vase life make it a favourite for bouquets and floral arrangements.
For best results, plant tubers in spring once the risk of frost has passed in a sunny, well-drained position, and provide support early in the season.
A tidy, productive pompon dahlia that delivers perfect form and continuous colour from summer into autumn.
