Description

Dahlia ‘Tsuki-Yori-No-Shisha’ (often known as “Moonlight Messenger”) is a truly distinctive spider dahlia that brings movement, height and elegance to the summer garden. Unlike fuller decorative varieties, it is defined by its long, slender petals that twist and curl outward, creating an airy, almost weightless flower form that feels constantly in motion. The blooms are pure white, occasionally touched with a soft ivory glow towards the centre, and measure approximately 15–20 cm across. Their open, sculptural shape gives them a dramatic presence without ever feeling heavy, making them particularly effective in contemporary planting schemes or naturalistic borders.

Plants are tall and upright, typically reaching around 120–150 cm in height. The strong stems lift the blooms well above the foliage, allowing them to stand out clearly in the garden and catch the light beautifully, especially during the evening or early morning. From midsummer through to the first frosts, this variety produces a steady succession of flowers. Regular cutting encourages even more stems, making it a reliable and rewarding choice for both garden display and cutting use.

In borders, Dahlia ‘Tsuki-Yori-No-Shisha’ adds contrast and texture rather than dense colour. It blends particularly well with ornamental grasses, perennial planting schemes and softer dahlias, where its open form creates balance and movement among fuller blooms. As a cut flower, it is highly valued for its architectural quality. The long stems and dramatic silhouette make it ideal for modern, airy arrangements where structure and flow are more important than volume.

Easy to grow in full sun with fertile, well-drained soil, this dahlia benefits from some support in exposed positions due to its height. Once established, it performs reliably and brings a unique elegance to the garden throughout the season.

Dahlia ‘Tsuki-Yori-No-Shisha’ is perfect for gardeners looking for something beyond traditional form, a white dahlia that feels light, expressive and unmistakably sculptural.
